Boy... Is my body lethargic or what!! It feels like my muscles in my body is gonna burst anytime soon! urgh... this is one of the reasons I don't like working on the Morning Shift. Need to wake up early.. need to drag myself to the bathroom... need to force myself to drink some coffee to wake me up (like that actually works! :p ). I am OBVIOUSLY NOT a morning person.

Now, I'm forcing my brain to work and to think straight. Focus AzMean... FOCUSSSS! Speed.. I AM SPEED.... :p

Still need to work tomorrow.. Another Month-End. Double urgh! Miss my Putri. I want a hug from her! Warm, Warm Hug... *Zzz*...

--- 26 Nov 2007, 3PM --- My Birthday ---

Yep, today @ 6:47PM Sharp is where I officially came into this world 28 Years ago. But today, I would just be staying at home lazing my butt off.. haha.. whoop!

Yesterday was where Putri Celebrated My B'day with me. It was a simple.. but seriously memorable one. It was one of those celebrations where nothing else matters, except for the one beside you.. Ok.. enough of the mushy stuff already...

Putri actually booked a private movie session with only me and her (and the operator of the place lah) watching the movie, "Dreamgirls". We were served with a big bowl of Nachos, complete with savory Melting-Cheese and some Coke. Putri brought along a Small Choc cake and a few Custard puffs (how thotful!).. and also not forgetting a small birthday gift (I'll get to that part later on). It was a nice movie though... with.. lots of singing and singing.. and singing.

After the movie session ended, we made our way to Bugis Junction to walk around for a while before deciding to play Bowling at Tampines Safra. When we reached there, the place was having a Private Tournament! How Sad!!! So, not wanting to spoil the mood, I suggested going for a Karaoke Session near Putri's Place! Woohoo!

We sang and sang the night away. From Dangdut to Rock to Jiwang Songs... we sang it all. Until we literally lost our voices. I have recorded some of the songs we sang on my Mobile Phone. I will upload when I find out how to actually do it. Anyone has recommendations?

My Birthday gift? Yes yes yes.. What I got from Putri was a small, simple but personalised gift. ;) It was a small jigsaw puzzle with her private message written on it. So I had to fix the jigsaw puzzle to find out what that message was. She knew I had a knack for fixing stuff, so it was a really thoughtful of her to do something like this.

The jigsaw is made in a way that the person who bought this thing is supposed to fix the jigsaw by following the numbers behind each jigsaw piece and write a personal message at the front, when completed. So, before the gift is given away, the jigsaw is dismantled back into the box. When the recipient gets the gift, he/she will need to fix back the jigsaw to read the message. Nifty!

So, from the 2nd pic above, you can see that I sorted out the pieces according to the numbers behind each piece. After which, I fix it up according to the numbers (duh!). There was a mix up in the middle where I thought the "68" was a "89" and vice-versa. Look at pic#04 and you will know what I mean.

After I was done, (pic#05) I flipped the jigsaw over to read the message (pic#06). Awww.. so swweeettt... ;) thanks Putri. Love you Deep-deep! :D

--- 25 Nov 2007, 6AM -- Rain Locations In Singapore ---

Have you ever wondered whether your next destination on the other side of the island is raining or not? Do you peer out of your window regularly to see whether its going to rain or not? Well, you dun have to anymore.. not when you are in-front of your internet enabled PC, that is.

Do you know that NEA (National Enviroment Agency) have been providing us a very useful tool that not many people know about? On their website @ www.nea.gov.sg, they have a weather radar that generates an image and shows you the rain locations anywhere in Singapore, every 12-15 minutes. Basically, you can know, at any time, which part of Singapore is Raining. Useful if you want to find out if your Good Friend in Tekong is having a wet field-camp or not, so you can call/sms and make fun of him. heh.

Click on the image on top or on the right and you can see the basic land mass of Singapore and some of the islands around it. The Patches of green you see on the map indicates that that area has light rain. As what is indicated in the label, if a certain area is blanketed with yellow or red area, this means that that area is experiencing Moderate or Heavy Rains respectively (like in the example at the bottom right). Of course, the map provided by the NEA is a kind of too bare. No Road markings, No MRT Lines. The only landmark they have is the location of Singapore's Major Parks and the names of some of the Towns. So you have to actually guess the location on the map any of the location(s) you have in mind.

Other than this static image, you can also view an animation of the rain locations regionally. Its a bigger map, showing huge part of JB and the North part of Batam. However, this animation is only updated every 30mins. But it's useful if you want to know which direction the rain is blowing to. UPDATE: From the new animation I have uploaded, you can see the patches of yellow and red moving across the image. This would just mean that the wind is blowing in the NorthEast Direction (click on the image to view the animation).

So, yeah... these 2 web apps are useful, especially to those who like the outdoors and/or those who ride a motorbike (like me).

Here are the direct links (do bookmark them to use it later!):

*I do NOT work with or is affiliated to the NEA one way or another.

--- 24 Nov 2007, 4AM --- N..nnumbing C..ccold! ---

Its 4AM and my fingers are numb from the super low temperature that this company loves to have. I have no idea why, but the temperature in this room is always been sooo cold.

Ok fine if you say you want to cool down the machines on the test floor.. but in the room??? There are humans here! I think so much productivity time is wasted from all the time we take to change out of our space suit uniforms, put it inside the locker, go to the toilet to relief our full bladder, wash hands, change back into our space suit, go through the air-tunnel and back to our working space. In average, 15mins is wasted for every trip to the toilet. And that is once, mind you. With this ice-cold temperature, the average person will need to go to the toilet every 3 hours or so! That time will be shortened if its raining outside!

And to think of it, I'm always wearing my thick jacket inside my space suit uniform as well. Even that can't keep me warm. To think of it, in the long term... even this isn't good for our health. You know.. cold inside,.. after work.. go outside.. hot.. and repeat and repeat. If you are a rock, your skin will exfoliate in no time!

--- 23 Nov 2007, 10PM --- Window Blinds ---

ONLY FOR WinXP Users, but Vista users can use it too...

Are you bored of the usual Silver, Blue or Green taskbar on your WinXP? You don't want to jump into the Vista Bandwagon yet? Too Much complications? Too Unstable? Well, fret no more... there is a Application out there that makes your normal WinXP look like a Windows Vista Platform! Its called Window Blinds.

I have stumbled upon this application last year while I was just lazily surfing the web. This app makes wonders to your Window XP PC. It basically works like a 'skin' to change the layout, color, fonts or whatever to your own customized look... yes you can make your own, or just download the themes that are readily available by members of the internet. After using this application for more than a year, I have always wondered why on earth do people upgrade to Vista when this app already exist?

Window Blinds doesn't alter any system files and users can switch from one theme to another, just like changing your regular desktop wallpaper! Yep, its THAT easy.

Check out the screenshots below! The first one a screenshot of my own desktop!

So, do check out the application at StarDock.com. Of course, you will need to buy the application if you like it, though there is a Trial Period where you can use it for 30-days (i think). Whoop!

-- 20 Nov 2007, 10PM - RamenTen Japanese Restaurant--

Last Weekend, I met Putri @ Harbourfront coz she had just came back from Tanjung Balai, Karimun for a Malay Dance Festival Held there. After meeting the entire group of Kirana + OrkesMutiara members, we split up and went to eat at RamenTen, which was located at level 2 of Harbourfront Centre.

I have eaten @ RamenTen before, but that was at Far East Plaza during the last fasting month. I couldn't remember what I ordered that day but it was one of those Dry Ramen Dishes. It wasn't even near to hot & spicy. hur hur hur...

Anyhoo... last Sunday, I ordered a "Tom Yum Chicken Cutlet" Ramen (or something like dat) and added $2 for an upsize. Putri ordered one of the Rice Dishes with 2 scallops.(I'm no Japanese so I dunno what is it called)

Mine was ok. Still it was no where near hot&spicy from what was stated in the menu with a 3 chilli rating (supposed to be super duper hot!). But the dish was ok. Nothing to scream about but it was rather filling for a noodle meal. Usually, for me, a noodle dish doesn't make me full. The dish also tastes more like laksa than TomYum. Bluegh...

Putri's Meal looks more interesting though. Let me see... 2x Scallops, Rice, Chicken and 2 prawn sushi. I'm not sure how the chicken is prepared but it tastes quite good, IMO. The scallops? Well, you see.. I don't have this thing for scallops or clams for that matter. Sure it tastes good with the sauce but plainly.. it tastes... well.. plain. Woot! The Prawn Sushi was good too! Nyummy!

We both also ordered Ice-cream floats as our drinks as you can see from the pics. Mine was Blue Soda Float while Putri's was Mango Float.

One thing that irks me was that most of the waitresses are PRC Gals and, no offence, but they really need to se-peak Eng-Lishh pro-per-lee, if they want to serve customers properly. It wasn't only at Harbourfront, but I experience the same thing at the Far East Outlet as well. Here was one of the orders went:

Me: I'll have the Blue Soda and she will have the Mango Soda.

Waitress: Do you want a "foat" as well?

Me & Putri: What???

Waitress: "Foat".. "foaatt".. we put ice-cream in your Soda.

Me: Oh! FLOAT!

At that point, I didn't know whether to get angry or to laugh. But I did not do either. What's more, theres a 10% service charge in our bill. Ngeh! I still prefer to eat at Swenson's. woot!

I'll stick to Sushi - AzMean

--- 20 Nov 2007, 1AM --- Computer Problems ---

On Saturday, I was at my PC, wanting to launch my Photo-editing program when an error came up, saying something like "blahblahblah.dll failed to initialize"... that kind of stuff.

So, as what any normal geek would do, Restart the PC. As I waiting for it to boot up, an error message began to show up saying "boot disk failure". Eekk!

Of course, I began to panic.. thinking that one of my main Harddisks have failed entirely, which means that all my data would be lost! Crap! No! But after a few deep breaths and a check of the BIOS made me figure out that an old IDE 40GB Harddisk is the one that crashed. How old? Let me see... I got it during my Poly time, which is about 7 years old. haha!

This hard disk was quite redundant in my system coz its main purpose was to provide the 'minimum 1 IDE Hard disk' to the system so that it can boot up normally with the other SATA Hard disks. Dun understand? Nvm. Just read on.

Basically this old hard disk was a dummy one. Nothing important was kept there. *phew*. What's more, my WinXP was installed into that Hard disk; its on another SATA Hard drive. hehe...

<< my system Config. Click it!

So off I went to a crowded Sim Lim Square to get hold of any new, cheap IDE Hard Drives on sale there. The smallest capacity they had was a 80GB Harddrive. *sheesh* I didn't need that much. Anyhoo.. that would do. I got home ASAP and got the problem Hard disk replaced. Then came another problem..

My PC System fails to detect my old WinXP from my 160GB Hard drive! No fuss, I have just to install another WinXP into the new Hard drive then. So, after half an hour of formatting and installing the WinXP into the new Hard drive.. and booting up. The PC still cannot detect my older WinXP. It should though, theoretically. After googling thru the internet, I learnt that I need to edit the "Boot.ini" file and include the Older WinXP into this file, so that the system will 'point' to my older WinXP during boot-up (you can read about it here). I did just that and walla! my PC, back to normal.

Now I'm still figuring out what to store in the 80G Hard drive. 0_o

--- 19 Nov 2007, 10AM --- Happy Anniversary ---

< click on pic for a hi-res version >

Exactly 2 years ago, she accepted me into her life, in her heart and into her love. How could I not remember that night? We were spending some time together at Changi Beach when she accepted me, officially, as her 'other half'. After that, I got stopped by the Traffic Police for having a tinted visor. haha.. ok that's not the point.

Thanks, Putri, for these 2 years of many happiness together and I look forward to many, many more years together. I have learnt more about myself and my life, thanks to you. Life have been hectic these few months and I hope we can get back at spending more time together starting today. I love you, Putri.. and I miss you too.

Happy Anniversary, Putriku.

-- 15 Nov 2007, 5AM -- Early Birthday Gift from Boss --

Eventhough its a few more days to go to my Birthday, I came to work last evening to get a sweet 'love' letter from my boss, through my supervisor.

Yep. Merit Increment. At first I thought it was a Promotion (haha, dream on AzMean!)... then I thought it was a Resignation Notice, but then.. I read the big word.. "MERIT".. that's supposed to be good rite? YUP.. it's a Salary Increment, for my contributions to the successful PHP (something to do with HTML) project that I did months ago and a smaller project after that.

And to think my efforts went unnoticed. Woohoo!

--- 15 Nov 2007, 2AM --- My MRT Maps ---

As you may or may not have known, I do a bit of SMRT Maps of my own design so that people could use it for their mobile devices. These SMRT System maps started way back in 2000 when I got my first PDA (you can read it here).

Since at that time, PDA were just beginning to crawl their way into society's pockets and wasn't that popular. Although there were thousands of applications that were readily free to use, there wasn't any on Singapore SMRT System map. Of course I could take one off the SMRT Website, convert it and install it into my PDA. I just didn't like the idea of that. What's more, the Maps that were available on the web were just the existing lines. I wanted a map which shows future or line under-construction.. so that eventhough the user may have the map for very long.. the map would not be so outdated. Also, if I used the Official SMRT Map, I would need to pay SMRT Corp S$10 for distribution and copyright. :p yeah.. exactly. So I guess.. why waste money when I can make one myself?

So I did.

<< my 2001 MRT Map. Can you read it?

Being a noob at photoshopping at that time, I tried to create the SMRT Lines from scratch. My first map was really pathetic. It was completed in 2001 and it shows the old colour codes of our SMRT Map. You know,.. the West for Blue, Green for East, Yellow for North and Red for South? But somehow, I messed up the colours and got the North Line as Yellow and South Line as Amber. Eek! haha.. and to make it worse, the new NorthEast Line (at that time) was color-coded with Purple and Red. But, still, I managed to get it online for distribution (for free of coz).

<< the 2002 map. Magenta for NEL? haha!

So, the following year I overhauled the map. I started from scratch again and tried to stick close to the original as possible. But the 2002 version was nothing but nice. haha.. boy do I suck at this or what. The color was wrong... everything was wrong! Well, at least I got the bus transfer icon this time.

vv the 2003 map vv

In the 2003 version, I used the original SMRT Map and added the future lines in (so much for copyright!). There were the CCL Line and the newly opened NEL Line and the Sengkang and Punggol LRT Lines. It looks much better but everything was a bit pixelized due to so much resizing certain parts of the map.

vv version 2004 vv

I was only happy with the next project in 2004. It was also edited from the original SMRT Map and I TRIED to follow the line width and text from the original map. But, as you can see from the picture, some lines are fat while some are thin. There are also obvious patches of lines that are different color shades. Haha.. NOOB! Maybe I'm not good with Adobe Photoshop. But I did liked the outcome. It looks waaaay better, easier to read and looks closer to the original.

While I was in the Army, I was doodling away on a piece of paper when I came up with an idea to make my own format for the MRT Line (with the number codes and names intact of coz). This time, I started again from scratch and implemented the design. Also, I changed to another Photo Editing Software called PhotoImpact. For me, it's a bit better that Adobe. The map, in the end, looks good, but the Interchange Stations were not clear enough. And I spelled "convention" as "convection". har har har.

So, finally.. after almost 2 years of silence, I got to work on the map again and came up with the newer format. I took away the boxed station number codes to make the map less cluttered. I added a whole lot of future MRT, LRT and Monorail Line. Even those NOT in the Original Map. And this.. is the outcome.

(CLICK THE IMAGE BELOW!)

You can download the stuff HERE.

UPDATE: SengKang LRT Station "Farmway SW2" will be in operation starting TODAY, Thursday 15 Nov.

--- 14 Nov 2007, 12AM --- My Fav. Restaurant ---

Let me see... before this post was created, there were a few events that are worth posting up as an article (or not).

Last week, Putri & Me decided to eat dinner at our favourite eating place. That is, Swensons. Swensons Marina Square to be precise. Not that Marina Square is the only Swensons that we regulate... no wait.. that's not the correct word.. haha! Anyhoo.. yeah.. we would love to eat at Swensons anywhere in Singapore, not Just at Marina. As usual, after the anticipation of feasting on Swensons delicacies, we will sit down , stare at the menu and not decide wat to eat.. coz basically.. we want to eat all, coz everything (to us) looks good and appetizing.

the super mega burger!! >>

Finally, I choose the Mega Burger Meal and Putri chose a new dish, the Crayfish Pasta and damn it smelled good! The Mega Burger set is my all time favourite burger meal in Swensons. Like the name said, its BIG, its HUGE and its JUICY. Its so big that you can't eat it like a normal burger.. you know the way you normally eat burgers at Mcdonalds with your hands. You have to cut it up using the knife and fork (duh!) to eat it. Shit man.. writing about this makes me hungry. Even BK's double Whopper Burger cannot beat this giant! NYUMMY!!!

Putri's Pasta was nice looking and tastes good too.. Since that was the first time I ever eaten a Crayfish.. I can't compare the taste. But the pasta taste somewhat like the Chilli Fish Pasta that I usually eat. (another DUH!).

After which, we ordered ice-cream for deserts. Usually, my fav. order would be the 'Frosted Choc Malt' and Putri's would be the 'Choc Crunch'. But this time, I wanted to try something else and smaller coz I was already full with Burger stuff.

<<top: her fav. / bottom: my fav.

Putri ordered the 'Frosted Choc Malt' while I ordered the 'Cookie Summit'. Haha.. The menu visuals can be deceiving!!! I wanted something smaller and the "Cookie Summit" was nothing but SMALL! Luckily I could finish it up but had trouble walking fast after the meal. heh..

--- 9 Nov 2007, 12PM --- Feels like a Monday ---

I'm at work, feeling really tired. Exhausted-Body-aching-tired. I already applied some "Neck and Shoulders" Tiger Balm thingy on my shoulders and back before I went to work just now. It works for a while.. but the pain came back. Uhukz.

<< Kirana Gang, in the 2nd house

The reason, is because, yesterday was spent roaming around Singapore with KiranaSeni Gang for a Hari Raya Outing. Yes its a bit late, but better late than never! Putri wasn't there coz she was called up by her boss to go to work. :'( So I was all alone. However, I didn't spent the whole day with them. At 7pm, I left the gang to catch "Wangi Jadi Saksi" play at the Esplanade Theatre Studio. This time, Putri was there to join me. I have booked the tickets waaayyy before Hari Raya. The show was OK lah... there was Rafaat as the Guest cast while the rest were Malaysia actors, like Deanna Yusof.

All in all, I reached home at about 11PM... with sore feet (due to the capals) and half-closed eyes. Will talk about the 2 events later on. Now.. I have to work work work.

It's A FRIDAY! - AzMean

-- 4 Nov 2007, 1PM -- Family Open-House @ Putri's --

The entire day of Saturday (3rd Nov) was spent at Putri's house, helping her for the preparations for her Family Open House. I also brought along the PC that I found at my Void Deck during the fasting month, which was still in a usable state. Can you believe these people?? In the state that I found the PC, you wouldn't believe it was thrown away. It was still in the Glossy Black casing, internals attached including a Pentium4 3.0GHz CPU, 'Gigabyte' Motherboard, 512MB RAM, DVD Burner and a standard 1.44MB Floppy Disk Drive. The only thing that was missing was the Hard Drive. All I have to do was to buy a new Hard Disk and install the Windows XP and Walla! A new PC, minus the monitor.

Now where was I, oh ya.. the first thing I did @ Putri's was to hook up the PC to her old PC's Monitor which was still in good condition, I should say. Everything was a snap and everything worked well.

me, cooking.. REALLY! >>

After which, I went to help to buy some foodstuff and do a bit of cleaning here and there. Then, it was time to help out in the kitchen. Yep, you heard right, the kitchen! I helped Putri and her mom cut some veggies, fry hotdogs, fry drumlets, prepare spices and clean utensils. At first.. it was fun. But chaos came when we realised that there was not enough food to feed all and we had to cook the same thing over again. There were pasta (by Putri) and Tomato Rice, but still it wasn't enough. What made it worse was that Putri's family & Close family friends came in droves.. not one or two.. but Seven to a Dozen at once. So.. yeah.. you can imagine the panic. Haha.. but it was fun though. We all took turns doing the tasks so that everyone could have a bit of rest.

<< us, fooling around

By the end of the day, my limbs were numb from all the standing and dodging hot cooking oil. Putri and me had a plate of pasta before I took a nap for about 15min before going home. BY the time I crash into my bed,.. it was about 12:30AM.

MY LEGS STILL HURTS! -AzMean

UPDATED: Added a few pics. Not much la...

--- 4 Nov 2007, 10AM --- Another fatal Accident ---

On the way to work this morning, I saw the aftermath of yet another fatal accident along the Central E'way (CTE, between AMK Ave 5 and Yio Chu Kang Exits).

It seems like a solo accident, since there was only the motorcycle lying in the middle of the the left most lane... well, whats left of it anyway. The rider seemed to have been thrown over the side barriers to the side of the expressway. A Navy Blue Police Tent was already covering the body. Yeah, the TP and a Tow Truck was already at the scene and the Police was already in the area guessing what actually happened.

this is the scene that i saw. R.I.P fellow biker... >>

I was on my bike, so I couldn't possibly take any pics. But my guess is that the rider somehow swerved to the left, hit the barrier and he/she was thrown to the grass verge. The motorcycle bounced back to the road.

I felt sad after passing by the accident scene. I don' t know why. I don't even know who he/she was. Maybe its just that... I felt that motorcyclists should be aware that their own lives is at stake while on their motorcycles. If they are tired, sick or whatever reasons, they should just take the public transport. Yeah, it may be troublesome since their motorcycle (or even car) is probably the fastest way to get to their destination but... it's that ONE decision that will probably change their fate. Even for me, sometimes heavy rain will make me think twice about getting on the road on my two-wheeler.

I'm not condoning anyone of ever owning a motorcycle, man. I know the convenience of owning one. I, myself, loves having a motorcycle to take me here and there at the shortest time possible.

Just think. Just be wise.

-- 1 Nov 2007, 10AM -- New Month, New Adventures --

Ahh.. Beginning of the month.. where the workload comes to a screeching halt (oklah not so much lah). It's like going on night shift where no one disturbs you and chase you for this and that. A very different atmosphere from yesterday. Though,I'm still recovering from the Mayhem.

I got a Late night 'adventure' yesterday night, or rather.. Morning. Haha... you see... my mum didn't cook anything yesterday night and there no food at all! Not even in the fridge or not even Instant Noodles! (my mum got the last packet before I got home). So, being adventurous with a growling stomach, I decided to drag myself to the esso petrol station in-front of my block to get some snacks and to pay my bills at the AXS Station while I was there. Yeah.. everything was well planned.. until I locked myself out. :(

I forgot to bring along my friggin' keys!!! How am I supposed to get back inside??? I called my home phone hoping that my parents could hear the annoying ringing, but it was useless. It was 1am. I was tired, I was moody and my hair was messy. haha. My only shot was that either one of parents would be going to the toilet in the wee hours and that would be the time I could call home and ask them to open the door for me. If not, I would just have to wait till 3:30AM when my parents wake up to get ready for work.

So, armed with a 'Stuff' magazine, Nachos w/ cheese, Kinder Bueno (my fav!) and Hot Chocolate, I camped out under the void deck of the opposite block and eyed on my kitchen window like a stalker waiting for his prey. I would have to call up the phone once I see the kitchen lights are on. Yep. That was my plan. It was perfect. I was ready. I was on my toes. I was ready to dial home.

Nachos w/ cheese were eaten piece by piece.

The Kinder bueno was eaten with pleasure.

The 'Stuff" Magazine was read TWICE, front to back (hey they got an article about Laura Vandervoort a.k.a Supergirl!).

The Hot Chocolate became Cold Chocolate.

And... and.. my parents still have not wake up. '-_-

When they did. It was exactly 3:30AM. *sheesh* I know it was my fault. Well, I am confident not to make the same mistake again. So... I swore that I would put an extra door key in my wallet just in case this ever happen again.

Perfect.. that is, if I dun forget BOTH my Wallet and my keys the next time.

Don't forget to forget. -AzMean
